The backyard is the perfect place to create your favorite wildlife habitat. Essentially, a backyard habitat is a haven for whichever wildlife you are catering for. The type of animals you cater to will depend largely on the different elements that make up your backyard habitat. Most backyard habitats are seasonal. A backyard habitat can be viewed as environmentally friendly landscaping. This is due largely to the fact that backyard habitats are the home to one or more functional ecosystems. A backyard habitat is a great way to preserve and promote a healthy environment.
I am a backyard landscape do it yourself hobbyist. As a matter of fact, one of the reasons that I first bought a house was because I wanted to be able to play with backyard landscape design. I have had so many backyard landscaping ideas since I was very small, but I have never gone on to do any of them. You see, when I was a kid I used to love to imagine what my dream house would be like. Of course back then, my backyard landscape ideas were not that well developed. Basically, most of my backyard landscape designs were pretty over the top. I wanted to have a giant backyard fountain that you could swim in, a backyard basketball court – you get the idea. When I was a kid, my backyard landscape design scheme centered around making the biggest, best playground that a child had ever had.
Anything with big, deep green leaves works great, and all the better if it is evergreen. Ornamental grasses like Pampus and Maiden grass make great foundation plants. They seem to add a care-free feel to the landscape as they move with the wind. You should be able to find several that are adapted to your area. Finally, try to find some color for the foundation. Any shrub or tree that flowers and is well adapted to your area is great for your foundation. Crepe myrtles are favorites in southern landscapes. Remember, the idea here is to set that permanent foundation. You’ll definitely want to use things that are reliable in your area, and will not succumb to winter cold.
Outdoor fire pits are another form of backyard fireplaces. Some people also call these fire bowls. The fire pit is the most portable of all of the backyard fireplaces and also takes up the least amount of space. They are ventless and do not have chimneys. Fire pits can be bowls, pots and pits that hold the fire within its boundaries. You may find some fire pits that come with wheels for easier portability. Without having a chimney to force the smoke away from your guests, it could be a little smokier than the other backyard fireplaces. Fire rings are also sometime called fire pits. Fire rings are similar to what you find in a campground. They are simply containment areas for the backyard fire. These are the least expensive of all the backyard fireplaces. You can easily place a grill over the top for cooking.
Add Some Water: For those of you who live in a landlocked area, bodies of water might not exactly be a hop, skip, and a jump away. Instead of longing for an ocean or a lake, bring a mini-version to you by putting in a fountain or a pond. A fountain or a pond can enhance your backyard, giving it a watery essence it wouldn’t otherwise have. These might not be much like the ocean – they won’t allow you to snorkel or surf – but, look on the bright side: you won’t have to worry about sharks.
