I am a backyard landscape do it yourself hobbyist. As a matter of fact, one of the reasons that I first bought a house was because I wanted to be able to play with backyard landscape design. I have had so many backyard landscaping ideas since I was very small, but I have never gone on to do any of them. You see, when I was a kid I used to love to imagine what my dream house would be like. Of course back then, my backyard landscape ideas were not that well developed. Basically, most of my backyard landscape designs were pretty over the top. I wanted to have a giant backyard fountain that you could swim in, a backyard basketball court – you get the idea. When I was a kid, my backyard landscape design scheme centered around making the biggest, best playground that a child had ever had.
Backyard landscapes have evolved from lawn and a sprinkler to new modern designs involving pools, spas, barbeque pits, tables, couches, and dishwashers. The modern idea for a back yard has become an outside room that you can use many months out of the year. Backyards are the screened porches of the twenty-first century but before you start digging the hole for the pool do some research online to view pictures of what other people have done with their backyards. Spend some time thinking about what aspects of their designs you like and what you dislike. Research the appliances you want to use and see if others have recommended the appliance for use in your area. After all what works in a backyard in California probably won’t work out as well in Maine.
In vegetables the choices are also limitless. An artichoke shrub can grow huge with the right care and provide more outstanding artichokes than you can eat. They are beautiful plants that fit into any backyard landscaping or even as specimen plants in the front yard. Asparagus roots are a must order for any shady woodsy area of your backyard landscaping. The fine lacey fronds are beautiful all season. Homegrown asparagus is unbeatable for taste and freshness. Be sure and buy at least 2 year roots so you don’t have to wait two years for a taste treat. Every spring add a good top coating of rich compost and some manure to ensure huge yields.
Other options to consider might bed vibrant wildflowers and decorative landscaping materials. If you are designing a new patio, choose fun colors for the tiles or stones on the floor. Add special touches to your backyard to give it your personal touch. There are so many different themes that you can go with for your backyard. If you are wise of a tropical getaway, commodities in your backyard might be fruit trees, and coordinating flowers. You can also put a hammock between two trees and swing in the warm summer breath. Toss several candles available in your patio and several tropical toss rugs on the floor. You will be surprised what can be accomplished when trying to add feeling and warmth.
Pricing varies with the many types of backyard fireplaces to choose from. Chimineas can cost anywhere from $150 to $600. Smaller, plainer outdoor fire pits can be found for around $100. Larger and fancier ones, such as fire tables, sell for $1000 to $2000. Fire rings, being the least expensive, can be found for $100 or less. The fire units for the true outdoor fireplaces are anywhere from $500 to $2500 but you also need to purchase the materials as well as maybe having to hire someone.
